I am a holiday fanatic – you name it; I have an ugly sweater for it. I’m not all too sure when this obsession started, but I think it’s here to stay. Halloween, however, is my absolute favourite. So I thought, what better than the Ultimate Guide to All Things Halloween! Step 1: Décor Making your space festive will automatically put you in the Halloween-y mood. Since I don’t have my own house to decorate, I pull out all the stops inside; flickering candles, cobwebs (with spiders, of course), skeletons hung all over the place, pumpkins everywhere you look. For decorating ideas, Pinterest was my best friend – I found everything at Michaels, but if your budget is tight, Thread Banger (https://www.youtube.com/user/ThreadBanger) has some spooky DIY’s that’ll be sure to turn your space into Scare City! Step 2: Fashion And I’m not just talking about costumes – October (typically) is the season of perfect fall weather, and what better way to celebrate than tacky knits and a spooky manicure. This holiday season calls for black, orange and as many ghost and ghouls you can fit on a sweater. Thrift shops often come in handy to find the tackiest of tacky holiday sweaters – and they are never in short supply! If you’re somebody (like me) who would REALLY rather not get out of bed, Rose Gal ( http://www.rosegal.com/halloween/shop ) features some rather interesting ones, for great prices, might I add! (this is the one I JUST bought… this online shopping addiction will end me). Let’s not forget all the objects in our lives that should also be properly spook-ified! Halloween-y phone cases may be seemingly impossible to find in store, but EBay will not disappoint! Step 3: MOVIES With Halloween comes horror movies – the two are basically inseparable. Here are a few of my favourites; 1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the remake) I have seen this movie about 100 times and it never fails to entertain – I never use to do well with horror, until I lost my horror movie virginity to this fine film. Enough gore to stay in for the rest of the night, but not enough to make me consider becoming a recluse… 2. Saw (V) I’ll be honest, I watched fifth movie first, and knew I just HAD to see the rest. Something about the storyline made me think that I was safe from Jigsaw, but that still didn’t stop my irrational fear that I would somehow die every single way ever given in this series 3. (not necessarily a horror movie) The Addams Family I don’t know if its because I’ve always dreamed of being Wednesday Addams, or if its because I want a love like Morticia and Gomez, but this one keeps me coming back, all year. If I could live in a movie, it would be this one! (also note, last year I was Wednesday for Halloween and had the best night ever, so it’s a sign) 4. (again, not a horror movie) The Halloween Town Series While wanting to be Wednesday was my dream, being Marnie was much more attainable – watching these movies are tradition, it simply isn’t Halloween without Grandma Aggie and the gang 5. Annabelle To play into my fear of dolls, this film rounds off my top five. I saw it in theatres twice, and left crying both times (maybe I’m a wuss). Either way, I keep going back for more creepy doll action (I just finished watching it before writing this post) (A shout out to my friends for the cuddles during, and after the movies – couldn’t do it without you, literally) Step 4: The Costume THE most important step in Halloween-ing! Anything you decide to be is wonderful, as long as IT IS NOT OFFENSIVE! Please don’t be sexy *insert cultural symbol here*! There are so many costume ideas, you can leave the sexy Geisha idea behind! If you’re struggling for last minute ideas, may I introduce you to Pinterest, your one- stop- shop for all DIY projects! (when in doubt, be a pun) YouTube also offers a MILLION make up tutorials that seem rather feasible, all you need is some makeup, liquid latex and talent! No matter what you decide, I’m sure it’ll be spook-tastic! So there you have it, the Ultimate Guide to All Things Halloween! Until next time, stay spooky! xo Kait
